Beauty The Lipstick Fever

ALL. THINGS. HAIR!

Hi Friends! For the last couple months I’ve had the pleasure of partnering with All Things Hair, powered by Unilever, which is essentially a mega digital platform – they cover hair topics, tutorials, and provide alllll of the product recommendations you could ever need.  If you’re hair obsessed like me, their website is going to become like your new best friend.

So here’s the deal – I’ve been working with them behind the scenes as their in-house beauty influencer to share tips and tricks on different hair topics, solve common hair issues, as well as provide product recommendations by hair type.  Because at the end of the day, we need products that are tailored to our specific hair needs.

We’ve put together a 5 video series by hair topic, which are available on their youtube channel. I’ve included a key takeaway for each hair topic in addition to links to all the videos so you can peruse as you like. Additionally, I’m including the hair product(s) in each video that have worked best on my fine, color-treated hair.  OK, now let’s go to it!

Tips for Washing Hair – So for this video, we kind of went back to hair 101.  Although these tips might seem obvious, they aren’t and make ALL the difference when it comes to washing our hair.  My biggest takeaway from this video was that you need to completely saturate your hair in water, prior to using your shampoo & conditioner system.  Especially if you’re like me and you go a few days in between washes. It’s essential to soak your hair completely in water prior to shampooing to help break up product build-up.  My favorite shampoo in this series is the Suave Professionals Strengthening Honey Infusion Shampoo as it both strengthens and leaves my hair feeling completely refreshed without weighing it down when used together with Suave Professionals Strengthening Honey Infusion Conditioner.

Bonus – only apply a small amount of conditioner to your ends, especially if you have fine hair like me.

Best Shampoo for Soft Hair – Touchable, bouncy, SMOOTH.  Not that much to ask for, right?  I’ll be the first to say that my hair can often feel dry and brittle, and that is due to color-treating.  So I need products that will get my hair back to that touchable soft state and fast. The AllThingsHair team really educated me about ensuring that we have the right shampoo and conditioner systems in place to achieve soft hair.  Hands down, my favorite product in this series was TRESemmé Repair and Protect 7 Shampoo – not only does it smooth your hair, but it’s infused with the protein biotin which strengthens your hair from the inside out when used in sync with the TRESemmé Repair and Protect 7 Conditioner.

Best Sulfate Free Shampoo – SLS, sulfate-free, silicone-free.  It can all get really confusing, REALLY fast.  Hopefully this video will help to explain why we might want to reach for a sulfate free or low-sulfate shampoo, especially for us color-treated gals!  Essentially, sulfates are cleansing agents that are found in a lot of our beauty products. My biggest learning from this video was getting to know the science behind sulfates, what they are, and why as someone with color-treated hair it’s good to have a low-sulfate shampoo in our arsenal as it’s gentler on our color. The one that was best for my fine hair was Love Beauty and Planet Blooming Color Murumura Butter & Rose Shampoo. Used together with Love Beauty and Planet Blooming Color Murumura Butter & Rose Conditioner, I found it left my hair clean but also fresh and bouncy.  Not to MENTION the dreamy rose and coconut scent and light-weight texture.

Best Shampoo for Bleached Hair: By now, you guys can probably tell that I’m blonde, I color-treat my hair, and essentially, I bleach my hair.  The sad truth about coloring our hair, is that we are doing damage to the hair shaft in each hair appointment, as we’re opening up the cuticle to chemicals.  While I’m not willing to forgo my blonde hair, there are things we can do to keep our locks in it’s healthiest condition. Being conscious about the shampoo and conditioner systems that we’re using in between color appointments and treatments is especially important.  My favorites in this series was TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Color Shampoo and Conditioner – as both are infused with keratin and Moroccan oil which I found keeps my blonde smooth, shiny, and my color vibrant.

Bonus tip: if your hair’s feeling dry, I like to do a ‘mini-mask’ so I’ll leave my conditioner in for 5 minutes before rinsing – this is outside of my ‘hair mask sunday’ routine.

Best Dry Shampoo for Color Treated Hair – It is NO secret that dry shampoo is my #holygrail hair product.    If you have color-treated hair like me, you might also know that we shouldn’t be washing our hair everyday. Continuous rinsing of our hair with water causes our color to fade, which is something we want to prevent.  Dry shampoo is like your new best friend in that regard as it will help you go more days in between washes, whilst keeping your hair feeling refreshed. My favorite product from this video was Dove Refresh + Care Volume and Fullness Dry Shampoo – it’s lightweight, gives my hair a bit of volume, and smells INSANE.

Top tip? Spray into your scalp, and then work the product into your scalp ensure there’s no product residue.  Then, you’re good to go!
